Mark Ronson for Billboard

This shoot with Mark Ronson was shot in the first week of 2015, only a couple of days into the new year. The brief from Amelia Halverson at Billboard was for an early 80s vibe to go along with the feel of Ronson’s huge hit, Uptown Funk’.  I put forward some references from the 80s ‘Memphis-Milano’ design group as my inspiration for the cover image. As Emma Revitt, my set builder, got to work I began to realise that sub-consciously I was recreating my teenage bedroom, or perhaps my teenage bedroom as I would have liked it to have been back when black and red were the only colours to aspire to as we hammered away at the ‘Track & Field’ machine in my hometown pub and the production sounds of Quincy Jones seeped into everything we listened to.
